Thursday October 24 & Friday October 25, 2024
Lied Lodge
Nebraska City, NE
The Plant Science Retreat is a biennial event for the University of Nebraska plant science community that provides a forum to learn, present, and discuss new plant science research.
Single-Cell Genomics for Stress-Resilient Plants
Invited Speakers
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Angela Kent, Ph.D.
Professor of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences
"RoadMAPs for sustainability: mining ancient genomes for crops of the future"
Angela Kent researches the ecology of microbial communities involved in processes that sustain healthy ecosystems. Her group uses molecular biology tools to describe the diversity and structure of microbial communities in natural and managed ecosystems, they use environmental microbiology methods to study microbial functions, and they use the tools of community ecologists to relate microbial community composition to biological and environmental drivers.
The Kent LabCalifornia Institute of Technology
Trevor Nolan, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering
"Unveiling spatiotemporal control of root growth and development"
Nolan's lab aims to elucidate the molecular intricacies of the switch from proliferation to differentiation and the orchestration of root growth, utilizing innovative techniques such as single-cell genomics, 3D spatial transcriptomics, and large-scale CRISPR screening.
Trevor M. Nolan WebsiteUniversity of California, Riverside
Sunil K. Kenchanmane Raju
Assistant Professor of Plant Resilience
"Divergent cell states and core regulators identified from comparative single-cell omics"
Kenchanmane Raju earned his PhD in Genetics, Plant Breeding, and Epigenetics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2017. He's conducted post-doctoral research at Michigan State University and New York University. His work at New York University included investigating comparative single-cell genomics to understand stress resilience in crops.
