The Mower Lab examines the evolution of genomic structure, function and content of plant mitochondrial, plastid and nuclear genomes. Researchers in the lab address fundamental questions in comparative and molecular evolutionary genomics using a combination of experimental and computational approaches. Organisms of interest have ranged from flowering plants (wildflowers, crops, parasitic plants) and other vascular plants (ferns, gymnosperms, lycophytes) to green and red algae. Topics of study include substitution rate variation, horizontal gene transfer, functional genomics, structural dynamics, intron diversity and RNA editing.
