Improving the carbon use efficiency for enhanced oil production from soybean and other oilseeds

Taiwo Dele-Osibanjo

With professors Toshihiro Obata and Edgar Cahoon, both with PSI and UNL Biochemistry, Taiwo Dele-Osibanjo will evaluate the impact of the expression of an alternative glycolytic pathway on seed oil biosynthesis in soybean and camelina to enhance carbon conservation and oil biosynthesis.

This study’s development of a new eco-friendly metabolic engineering strategy for enhancing carbon efficiency and yield in soybean and other food crops, as well the dissemination of the transgenic oilseed varieties generated in this study to farmers, offers a sustainable approach to bolster global food security while mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
