Shilu Dahal in the lab

Shilu Dahal is a PhD student in Plant Pathology working as a graduate research assistant in Clemencia Rojas' lab. Her research focuses on harnessing antimicrobials from environmental bacteria to combat plant pathogenic bacteria. This is her second Heuermann Graduate Recognition Award.

Shilu's passion is to develop sustainable, science-driven disease management strategies, which aligns with her current research. She is committed to translating scientific innovations into practical solutions for farming communities.

She has presented her research in UNL Plant Pathology and the PSI retreat, as well as national and international meetings, and has received awards from UNL PSI, UNL Agriculture Research Division, American Phytopathology Society, a travel grant from the Collective Research Organization of Plant Scientists (CROPS), and the Green Thumb Award from the Department of Plant Pathology. In addition, she has served as the VP of the Plant Pathology Graduate Student Association, as the graduate student representative for the Department of Plant Pathology, with CROPS, and with the American Phytopathological Society.
