PSI Heuermann Graduate Recognition Award 2025

The goal of the PSI Heuermann Graduate Recognition Award is to honor students who have distinguished themselves in terms of research productivity, professional accomplishments, and public service to their profession.

Eligibility: Masters or Doctoral students in PSI labs are eligible to apply

Evaluation Criteria

  • Record of publication, research product (e.g., databases, R-packages) and grant productivity
  • Internal and external scientific presentations
  • Awards and recognitions
  • Contributions to the broader plant science community and general public

1. CV

2. Research statement (1 page limit) addressing the following:

  • How the research contributes to PSI vision and mission (https://psi.unl.edu/vision-mission-and-core-values/)
  • Description of current and past research accomplishments, emphasizing work done while at UNL in PSI and how the research advances knowledge in the main focal area
  • Description of overall career plans and how the research contributes to them
  • Description of professional service and outreach activities (e.g., activities with CROPS or public scientific outreach)

3. Letter of reference: The applicant should arrange for a letter of reference (1 page) to be submitted by the student’s major advisor (submitted separately by the advisor to tobata2@unl.edu), emphasizing how their research contributes to advancing knowledge in basic or applied science and their professional service activities

2025 Timeline

  • Application Deadline: Apr 18th (Friday)
  • Decision will be made by the end of May, 2025
  • Awardees have opportunities to present their research in a PSI-related seminar
